AI literacy is a critical and ongoing goal for many organisations. The technology evolves at pace, however not everyone has kept up with it. Some employees are already using AI regularly in their work. Others are still exploring what it means for their role.
With skills gaps like these, it’s a big task to get everyone on the same level of confidence and capability. Businesses are investing heavily both in AI tools and in upskilling their teams. And they have two key challenges:
But it’s not as simple as giving everyone access to an eLearning module.
There are real risks – either information overload for less experienced learners, or disengagement with content for already confident learners. And, as many of us will agree, being made to complete training that feels irrelevant to our working lives is a real slog.
So, it’s vital to identify the stage an employee is on their AI journey, to target learning where it can have the greatest impact.
This is where our AI Diagnostic Tool comes in.
In a short but thorough module, learners are led through a series of prompts about their confidence, attitudes, and use of AI. Their responses give the business a way to target them with the right learning, at the right time, for the most impact.
When designing the diagnostic tool, we were conscious that it would be used by audiences with extremely wide experiences and opinions on AI. Some have fully embraced it, while others are more wary.
So, we designed it as a short, guided conversation, framed as if you’re having a chat with a colleague.
At the end of the experience, the tool recommends an entry point to learning. Learners can dive right in where they need to be, rather than working through content that isn’t quite right for them.
For employees, this kind of tool gives them a clear starting point and direction for developing AI capability.
And for organisations, they get insight in to how their teams are engaging with AI, and a better understanding of how to target learning where it will have the most impact.
A tool like this has to be flexible and easy to update, to keep pace as the AI landscape changes. We built it from scratch using HTML as a SCORM-compliant file that can be easily deployed to any learning management system (LMS). With our bespoke SCORM editing tool, it’s super easy to make changes to any of the content in the tool.
We’ve already deployed the tool with a leading UK retail bank, which aims for 80% of its colleagues to be AI literate by the end of 2026.
It created an AI Academy weaving together structured courses, thought leadership, alongside practical tips for applying AI, and opportunities to connect with colleagues. But to best guide learners on their journeys, the bank had to know their starting points.
So, we worked together on the AI Diagnostic Tool. At the end of the experience, learners get…
The tool launched to incredibly positive feedback across the business, with the bank’s AI initiative picking up plenty of media coverage too.
In a world where content can be created ever more easily, it’s therefore ever more important to get learners to the right content at the right time.
Our diagnostic tool that can identify a learner’s current stage – whether that’s on an AI journey, data, compliance, interpersonal skills – is ideal to give people learning that feels relevant. And that means learners are far more likely to engage with it.
