Immersive Technologies

We add measurable value to learning via immersive and emerging technologies.

Fitting technology to your needs

We take a technology-agnostic approach to everything we do. That means we don’t work backwards to fit a square technology peg into a round problem hole.

We can deliver learning experiences using any kind of technology or platform to fit right in with whatever the best solution for you is.

So, whether that solution is a highly-immersive virtual reality experience to teach lab skills, a super scalable desktop application for building empathy, a multimedia augmented reality exhibition, a mobile app with mini games on road safety, or a team game with players both in and out of VR headsets – we can do it all.

When it comes to hardware, we have no ties to any particular provider so we can advise you on what will suit your needs best.

Our job is to understand what value these technologies can add to your learning experiences and how we can help you to achieve the best possible return on investment.

The technologies we work with

Virtual reality

Experiences that allow the user to feel ‘present’ in 3D virtual environments and interact with them in a realistic way, using VR headsets such as the Meta Quest, Pico, or HTC ranges.

Wherever you are on your VR journey, we can help every step of the way: whether you’re starting to experiment with VR, exploring multi-device management tools, investigating the headset options, or whether you’re further along and in need of bespoke experiences.

We build totally virtual environments from the ground up, or we can use 360° video with interactive overlays, or a mix of the two.

Augmented or mixed reality

Experiences that superimpose virtual content onto the real world around the user, using AR headsets such as Microsoft HoloLens or mobile devices such as phones or tablets. Often an ideal tool for visualising work such as yet-to-be-constructed buildings or as an interactive piece at an exhibition.

Thanks to passthrough on headsets, mixed reality experiences are possible. In these, the user wears a headset and sees their surroundings through cameras on the outside of the headset. Virtual components can be overlaid the user’s view in the headset. For true mixed reality experiences, real and virtual elements should be able to interact.

Mobile and desktop

Interactive, e-learning content that can be delivered via learning management systems (LMS), downloaded apps or viewed in web browsers. We create SCORM-compliant packages for your LMS or otherwise work to integrate however you need us to.

Across Android and iOS devices, we create scalable immersive learning content to be deployed across the enterprise or consumer app stores. We can also make desktop or mobile versions of VR apps to make your learning go further.

Artificial intelligence

We use artificial intelligence in some of our learning experiences. We integrate emotional recognition AI to hold up a mirror to the learner’s emotions when delivering a difficult message. We also use generative AI to feedback on their performance and content of their response.

As AI is still an emerging technology with infinite possibilities, we’re continuing to experiment around the value we can add to learning with it. If you’re up for joining us on those experiments, we’d love to chat with you.

Room-scale solutions

We transform entire rooms and spaces into immersive environments, combining tech like projection mapping, location tracking, to transport visitors to unique interactive environments without the need for headsets.

We can create custom software to make these rooms interact in whatever way you like – for example, using projection mapping to create a virtual race track and location tracking to monitor go-karts as they race round.

Custom hardware

If you need something totally bespoke we can code custom software and combine custom pieces of hardware into a solution that can most faithfully replicate your systems.

For example, helped EDF Energy combine off-the-shelf, low-cost electronics such as a Raspberry Pi and bespoke network bridge PCBs to create a visually accurate simulation of some software used in nuclear control rooms.

Formats we work with

Our talented team of in-house developers and freelancers work with a range of tools and content types to create learning that can be delivered on the above platforms. These include:

How we help you deploy new technologies in your learning

After building the learning experience, we support you with deployment advice, such as hardware and multi-device management software, advising on what will suit you and your unique needs.

We can train your trainers, empower your organisational champions, and offer ongoing remote and on-site support. Our goal is to take the guesswork out of the process and to make rolling out your learning as smooth as possible.

Working with your IT teams

We’re well-used to working with strict IT and other kinds of requirements and are well-qualified to do so, holding a Cyber Essentials certificate. We can build solutions that are fully-networked within your systems or work outside of them depending on your needs.

For example, for one client we created a collaborative learning experience that anyone could join from their desktop, mobile, or laptop, hosted on their own server. For another client, it wasn’t possible to host a networked game internally. So we came up with a solution that allowed their teams to work together on a serious game via a video call, with each player interacting on their own local, unnetworked version of the game.

Proving the value of your new learning

Whatever the final experience and technology deployed is, measuring the impact is absolutely vital. We’ll work with you to define and measure outcomes and ensure that technology actually leads to tangible benefits like improved learning outcomes, cost savings, better performance.

We then build appropriate metrics into the learning depending on what your objectives are and what the technology used is – whether it’s directly integrated in a desktop application in your LMS or sending learner performance stats from a VR experience to you.
