At Make Real we’re a small but mighty team that delivers outstanding, award-winning learning experiences for some of the world’s largest organisations, as well as highly creative immersive entertainment. And we know that we can only do that because of the incredible people here, who bring a diverse range of expertise and experiences to their work.
That’s why we are committed to ensuring Make Real is a safe, inclusive space for our colleagues whatever their background. We value the input of every team member and the different perspectives they provide, which ensures each project is completed to the best of our collective ability.
Our overarching goal is to embrace and sustain a diverse workforce within an inclusive environment where every employee feels valued, secure, and has a genuine sense of belonging. We are dedicated to promoting equal opportunities for all employees and applicants. We strive to create a workspace where everyone can maximise their potential, free from discrimination or harassment, and where decisions are based solely on merit.
Our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion Policy and our Diverse Recruitment Policy underline our commitment to providing fair and equal treatment to everyone within the company and anyone who applies to work with us. We carry out assessments and provide reasonable adjustments for disabled team members or anyone with a condition that affects their experience of work.
We champion neuroinclusion through our Neurodiversity Policy, recognising the strengths of neurodivergent employees and providing tailored support while raising awareness and understanding across the company. We work to make our team feel safe to disclose neurodivergences and to support them with adjustments to help them be their best at work.
We’re active members of Diverse Sussex; we submit data to help build an understanding of EDI in Sussex’s tech centre, and we use their advice and resources to ensure we’re doing everything possible to foster inclusion, and we know there is always more to learn.
We are also proud to have worked with several clients on learning experiences to help them upskill their own teams on EDI matters. Projects like these help us stay up to date on what the best practices are and bring them into our own working lives.
Staff wellbeing is a top priority for us, as we understand that wellbeing and work performance are linked. We want to make sure that no one is subject to excessive workloads and to support all our team with any stress or mental health matters, whether that’s inside or outside work.
Our dedicated Mental Health Champion has completed a mental health course and carries out regular one-on-one check-ins with all the team, giving them a safe space to talk about anything that might be affecting them at home or at work.
Our benefit scheme includes access to counsellors and provides health benefits including optical and dental treatment, along with GP services, specialist consultations, and therapies such as physiotherapy. We also have a Cycle-to-Work scheme for those who want to take advantage of it, promoting a healthier lifestyle.
Our wellbeing policy extends to flexible working. All colleagues can choose to work remotely, hybrid, or from the office depending on what suits them best, with a work from home allowance to support at-home expenses. Working from abroad is a well-received benefit and one many colleagues choose to take advantage of. Our team have the option to request to adapt their working hours to support work-life balance, or other commitments, ensuring that we can all be our best selves at work and at home.
With our studio based in the Plus X Innovation Hub, being part of this community comes with a host of wellbeing perks, such as a variety of free herbal teas, freshly brewed coffee, or indulgent hot chocolate, the opportunity to recharge in yoga or breathing sessions, and to stay active with the weekly running club.
For those with a creative spark, there is the chance to explore the immersive labs, workshops and cutting-edge equipment.
But the biggest perk of all? It’s dog friendly! But there is also a space for those that prefer not to mix with the furry friends.
We know that remote and hybrid working can make it hard to feel connected with colleagues sometimes. That’s why we prioritise fostering community and connection across the team.
As well as using Slack for project management and internal communication as a whole, we have a variety of channels dedicated to different topics and interests like music, games, wellbeing – and, of course, our precious pets!
We host regular team meetings where we share individual updates or specific project and team updates so that everyone has a wide visibility of activity across the company. We also invite guest speakers within our industry to keep us abreast of the latest insights and technologies, as well as topics such as neurodiversity and D&I. We have online socials where we get together in VR whenever possible, to play together, with Walkabout Mini Gold and Among Us VR being firm favourites.
We get the team together in person at least three times a year, bringing everyone to Brighton for teambuilding activities and food. We’ve done everything from escape rooms to ‘paint and sip’. For those who can’t make it, we send out food vouchers so that no one is missing out. And let’s not forget cake: on birthdays we send out cards with a little extra.
If you have any questions at all about how we work and our policies, we’re more than happy to answer them. Drop a line to info@makereal.co.uk or via the form below.
